1971

1971

Muriel Reddick becomes librarian

1973

Presentation of an endowment fund was made in L.C. Baxter's name for the Library.  L. C. Baxter was the hospital administrator from 1953 to 1973.

1974

B.B. Baker, D.O., calls to order the first library committee meeting.  The minutes of that meeting quote him as saying, "...the quality of the educational program of any hospital coincides with the quality of its library."   On the agenda that day was a report of the sad state of the present library.  At this first meeting, those present also discussed the selection of new materials, development of an adequate budget, establishment of effective staffing, and formulation of library policies.

1975

New Library opens on second tower floor (where medical records currently exists).

1976

The Library Committee discusses the need for a second librarian.  The Director of Medical Education reported that the wife of an upcoming intern (Richard Cooper) has a Masters of Library Science degree and was interested in employment at the hospital library. 

Jane Cooper becomes head librarian.  She and Muriel Reddick reorganize the library, classifying the items using the National Library of Medicine Classification System.

1980

Planning sessions were held with an architect in connection with the Oklahoma Osteopathic Hospital expansion program.  The library was to be relocated and have improved facilities upon completion of the program.

1983

Library moved to temporary quarters in the physicians office building while hospital expansion was being completed

1984

The library moved to its current location 

Muriel Reddick retired after serving 13 years as a librarian at the hospital.

The first computer was purchased for the library

1986

The library began offering Medline services to patrons.  When Medline first became available, only a specially trained person was able to use it.  

1993

Microfiche reader/printer purchased for new journals in microfiche format

1995

Internet access becomes available in library

1997

Melissa Kash-Holley became the library assistant

1998

The library automates the card catalog the library catalog is now available on the hospital computer network.

2000

Jane Cooper retires after 23 years serving as librarian.  She and her husband, Richard Cooper, D.O., still live in Tulsa.

Jane is replaced by Beth Gault, a masters degreed librarian and former occupational therapist.

2002

Beth Gault resigns her position as librarian.  Beth now works as a librarian in Houston, Texas. 

Muriel Reddick passes away at the age of 83

 

Melissa Kash-Holley completes MLIS degree and accepts position as Librarian

 

Library web site created

First eBook purchased

2003

Electronic document delivery becomes available

2004

Library catalog becomes accessible via the Internet

2006

Lou Ann Thompson, MLIS,  becomes library assistant

2008

Melissa Kash-Holley resigns her position as librarian.  Melissa now works as a research librarian at the Tulsa City-County Library. 

Lou Ann Thompson, MLIS, AHIP is promoted to librarian
